Why do we recommend stopping here?

Situated on the banks the Loire, the last untamed river in France, Marseilles-les-Aubigny is a very pleasant place to spend a night and the Port de Plaisance is conveniently situated for shops and restuarants. Marseilles-les-Aubigny has, since ancient times, been an active and important trading post transporting a wide range of cargoes, including metal from the Vallée de l'Aubois, lime and cereals from the basin of Beffes and timber from the Tronçais forest.

What can I visit?

Visit the Musée de Sabot (free) which displays a collection of traditonal clogs and shoes, as well as models of the traditonal barges and boats which use the river and canal.

We would recommned a stroll to see the restoration work beng undertaken on the lifting bridge on the Canal du Berry, which has been closed to navigation since 1955 - its only approximately 300 metres from the canal.

Best places to drink an aperitif?

Café-bar-tabac-papershop situated on the quay - it’s the only bar in the village! It has a terrace overlooking the Port de Plaisance
