Why do we recommend stopping here?

Sitauted at the junction of the Canal du Nivernais and the Canal Latéral à la Loire, and the confluenbce of the Loire and the Aron, Decize is a pretty little town, well worth a stop to explore. The are 3 good supermarkets conveniently placed close to mooring spots so this is the ideal place to get any heavy shopping on board.

What is there to see?

The market, the ruins of the Chateau of the Comtes de Nevers, the remains of the ancient town fortifications and the clock tower.

Is this place famous for anything?

The town was mentioned by Ceaser in the 'Guerre des Gaules'

Birthplace of Saint-Just, Maurice Genevoix and Marguerite Monnot

The weekly market is held on Friday monrings and there is an adidtional one on the 3rd Tuesday of the month.

Practicalities at Decize

Mooring

There are 4 different mooring options at Decize: at the Crown Blue Line Base which is very quiet, and on the outskirts of the town. Alternatively there are two mooring quays in the centre of the town, one the Loire itself and on the Vieille Loire. Mooring is free of charge. Finally you could moor at the Port des Vignots by the Canal du Nivernais, which again is away from the town centre but close to the supermarkets and mooring is again free of charge.
